Early Childhood/Human Services
Here you will learn about the characteristics, needs, and behavior of young children. After learning basic skills, students operate a nursery school for practical experience. Acting as nursery school workers, you will prepare, plan, and execute the daily nursery school program. Internships may be available at other facilities in order to explore other careers, such as: nannies; home day-care operators; elementary teacher; teacher aides; and aides for the developmentally disabled, for the elderly, and for those with dietary or physical therapy needs. There is a growing need for workers in the human service areas. Increased need for preschool education, day-care programs, and human services programs create a demand for jobs in this field.
Electrial/Electronics Technology
The Electrical/Electronics Technology programs at the Career and Technical Education Centers deal with the application of electrical technologies in all phases of the industry. They emphasize the planning, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of wiring systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, according to the standards of the National Electric Code. In addition, they supply the “know-how” to launch careers in the fields of commercial lighting, motor applications, integrated manufacturing, machine control, and electronic device applications.
Media Communications Technology
Graduates of the Media Communications Technology program can look forward to careers as photographers, graphic artists, multimedia producers, web page designers and animators. Much of the instruction involves the use of state-of-the-industry computers (PC) to record and edit images with digital photography, produce layouts, and communicate with others locally or on the World Wide Web. Using appropriate technology and software, students learn to plan and produce advertising and page layouts, create original illustrations, modify and edit photos and other images, and actually publish them. End products may be printed on a laser printer, viewed on a website, or become a video or CD-ROM. Each student produces a final portfolio of their work to be used as a professional tool in their future.
Medical Assisting
One of the fastest-growing occupations in the health care field is the medical assistant. Employment opportunities are varied and available wherever health care delivery systems are found. After completing the program, students will be prepared to work as an assistant in a physician’s or dentist’s office, a hospital or clinic, a medical facility business office or a community agency, nursing home, or medical insurance company.
Natural Resources
Natural Resources are the materials that occur in nature and are essential to humans, such as soil, water, air, land, forests, fish and wildlife. Students in this program work at managing these resources with a variety of tools and techniques. Skills learned in this program would apply to careers in forestry, logging and sawmill operation, landscape, and wildlife management. Students will work with many different types of equipment and will become familiar with the safe operation and maintenance of chainsaws, tractors, backhoes, skid steers, trucks and bulldozers. Class time revolves around a variety of natural resource projects including pond conservation, logging road construction and maintenance, forest and logging operations, firewood production, landscape installation and construction, raising fish, conservation planting and deer food plots, tree climbing and care and establishing property boundaries.
Power Equipment Technology
The real heavyweights of the automotive industry - backhoes, bulldozers, stationary engines, over-the-road trucking, agricultural and marine applications - all require mechanics who know their way around diesel and large gasoline engines and who have the hands-on experience to get these powerhouses back on line. In this two-year program, you will learn about the basic engine (both gas and diesel), as well as theory and practical experience within the areas of heavy equipment operation, preventative maintenance, reconditioning, and troubleshooting. Farm machinery and small engine repair are also covered.
Project Lead the Way/Pathway to Engineering
The Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Pathway To Engineering (PTE) curriculum is designed as a two-year high school sequence. The program is divided into five rigorous, relevant, reality-based courses:
- Principles of Engineering - Students explore technology systems and engineering processes to find out how math, science, and technology help people.
- Introduction to Engineering Design - Using 3D computer modeling software, students learn the design process and solve design problems for which they develop, analyze, and create product models.
- Digital Electronics - Students use computer simulation to learn about the logic of electronics as they design, test, and actually construct circuits and devices.
- Computer Integrated Manufacturing - Students learn concepts of robotics and automated manufacturing by creating three-dimensional designs with modeling software and producing models of their designs.
- Engineering Design and Development- Teams of students, guided by community mentors, work together to research, design, and construct solutions to engineering problems.
