Teacher Academy 2009-2010

 

Action research and component district input have created an opportunity to provide a comprehensive Teacher Academy that meets the needs of new teachers; whether participants are first year, new to a district/grade/content area, in the early years, or looking for new ideas, the Teacher Academy’s topics and differentiated approach will meet their needs.

 

The following topics outline each day:

Day 1: October 9, 2009

  • 21st Century Skills
  • Research Process
  • Personal Learning Networks
  • Tools for getting and gathering information such as: Novel Databases, Google Alerts, RSS, Social Bookmarking, and Twitter.

 

Day 2: November 13, 2009

  • Dealing with volume of information.
  • Information Literacy: evaluating accuracy of information, multiple sources, plagiarism.
  • Discussion of the use of multimedia as a way to differentiate research and instruction.

 

Day 3: December 4, 2009

  • Presenting and representing information.
  • Using tools like podcasts, Adobe Connect, and wikis to present researched information.
  • Copyright, citing sources, and Creative Commons.

 

This is a COSER 517: Model Schools learning opportunity.

Ruby Payne:
A Framework for
Understanding Poverty

 

This training is based on the work of Dr. Ruby Payne. It is designed to help teachers and administrators understand how differences among students of generational poverty significantly affect student learning and the educational environment.

 

When: Thursday, October 15, 2009
