All Staff Day Focuses on Respect

Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES held its annual All Staff Day at Holiday Valley on Monday, August 28, 2017.  CABOCES Board of Education President Brad Sande introduced his fellow board members in attendance and welcomed all of the BOCES employees.  Mr. Sande then focused on the organization’s second core value – to treat all individuals with respect – and its importance as we all strive to do our best every day.

A total of 580 full-time staff and a few hundred part-time employees gathered in the Yodeler Lodge for the Opening Session in the morning, followed by breakout workshops and other activities.  More than 75 new employees -- hired over the summer -- were also among the attendees.

District Superintendent and BOCES Chief Executive Officer Lynda Quick followed Mr. Sande; laying out the size and scope of our organization and the numerous services we provide for our 22 local component schools and the residents of those districts.

A group of young performers from the Olean Community Theater then read a student written play, which focused on young people and how they struggle with such things as their personal identity, sexuality, body image, the culture, the media, technology, family, and substance abuse.

Following the Opening Session, employees enjoyed lunch and they had their choice of several activities including: chair lift rides, Mountain Coaster rides, flu shots, and wellness stations.

All staff then attended afternoon workshops they had signed up for online.  The training sessions included: BreakoutEDU (both Explicit Direct Instruction and Growth Set Mindfulness), Poverty Simulation, Restorative Justice, Restorative Practices, and Trauma Informed Care.
